Getting Started

Happy new year!

ree

I've really been looking forward to getting 2020 started and setting off on my newest adventure. I had initially planned to get going in January which then got shifted to February and now even to March.

It felt like I was just never getting around to making the necessary plans and organising anything so I decided to finally put my Project Management skills to use in my personal life and treat this a an upcoming project - which, in fact, it is.

This year, these travels, this blog - a project in which I'm hoping to learn more about myself through learning about others, about languages, foods, methods of transport, books I'll read and every other little glimpse of yellow or smile from a stranger in between.

So step one: Spreadsheets - if you've ever worked with me, you know I love a good spreadsheet.

I set up a lovely colour coded document setting out all my plans, dates, persons involved, to-do lists, to-pack lists, to-book lists.

I finally made some headway and shuffled all the flakes of glitter into a neatly connected disco ball.

Next, between steps 2 and 22, there was a lot of overlap and crossing out and re-organising priorities. With this overlap came a lot of stress, a lot of crying, a lot of panic, a lot of blurry vision and trembling tones.

Luckily, I decided long ago that this was something I was definitely going to do and nothing was going to get me down, so I cried my cries, said my goodbyes, counted my breaths and slowly but surely ticked my way down my lists.

Cheers for now Cape Town and my wonderful community.

Bags packed, Vaccinations done, Flights booked. Off to my first stop off on my long, slow journey to Uganda...

Gauteng.
